Let’s talk about Alzheimer

图片
Let’s talk about Alzheimer Before we go further, can you list down the steps involved when we want to use the bathroom? First, our brain needs to navigate us towards the location of the bathroom, commands our hand and finger in reaching for the doorknob, turning and pushing it just to open the door!! There are so much more after steps involved afterwards, and what if we forget any one of the steps that we should perform it automatically such as knowing we should open the toilet seat up or locating the toilet in my own house. To me, that’s terrifying and that’s Alzheimer. Nowadays, I believed that people might have labelled the disease as ‘ a common condition in the elderly in which they keep on forgetting things ’. In fact, Alzheimer is a neurological disorder under the umbrella term, Dementia which is ‘ the loss of cognitive functioning—thinking, remembering, and reasoning—and behavioural abilities to such an extent that it interferes with a person's daily life and acti...

AAC Workshop- I know how to make people communicate with u Last year, UKM had invited the AAC experts- The Nika Project team from United state to give us a workshop on AAC. I have met Dan & Mary (SLT) and a technician. They provide us an overview of the AAC development nowadays and teach us how to use some of the apps such as Pictello, Bitsboard and Communication matrix. Frankly say, we seldom apply AAC in the therapy and so, we actually forgotten the significant and prodigious aspect of Communication in the child’s development. So, the first person who propound the idea of applying AAC in speech therapy is a genius!!!!                  For those of you who are lost, AAC is an acronym for   Augmentative and Alternative Communication which is the use of alternative method including assistive technology, gesture (sign language) and other mode to permit the communication of individual that unable to...

Alvis UK Trip

Alvis is in UK~~~ ‘London is the place for me London this lovely city You can go to France or America, India, Asia or Australia, But you must come back to London city……’ (Theme song of Paddington, 2014 by D Lime feat Tobago Crusoe) I have been to some western countries such as France, Switzerland, and Australia, but I always long to travel to the United Kingdom. For me, UK is a symbol/ representation of the glamorous European world which we often germane it to “classy”, “elegant” and “Noble”. I imagined people wearing scarf and mac while rambling the glamorous street, enjoying the scrumptious scones and aromatouse scent of coffee diffusing in the air. This is how I want to spend my afternoon~~ In 2018, I got the chance to visit this magical kingdom. I have visited London, Salisbury, Glasgow, and Scotland. Nevertheless, it is a pain in my neck as I did not pay a visit to the Loch Ness. What a shame! All thumbs up for the pork’s burger, fish and chips and the ...

A remarkable experience in children playschool

Speech pathology student and the playschool During my semester break, i have decided to take a job as a playschool teacher as it can prepare me for my future clinical session as i am a speech pathology student in UKM.  What i didnt notice is that the playschool that i am working now is specialised for child with special needs. This is actually very challenging for me as i have no experience working as a nursery teacher before, plus i am a boy and not much centre in my country will hire a boy/men to work in this field. After working at this school for sometime, it really widen my exposure in which that are actually a lot of things happening under our nose when we talk about children and yet, we misunderstood what they want, causing them to throw tantrum on us. As a speech pathologist, from what i understand so far is that we are only concerning about their speech and the behaviour part is not what we should take care of.  But after working here, i lea...

UKM Speech Science interview

Finally, this is the one that I really wish to share with you all. I had attend UKM Speech science interview in the afternoon session. Luckily, there are around 12 candidates only in the afternoon session and thus, it took me around 30 mins only to complete the interview session First of all, I think most of the people will confused with this programme. When I get my offer letter, I have to check for many times to ensure that “Speech Science” is really what I think it is because the “Science” word is quite confusing. In addition, UKM speech science programmes is the same as USM speech pathology or speech language pathologist. You should also realise that UKM is the pioneer university in Malaysia offering this course and students get the chance to do their practical in the largest speech and audiology clinic in the Asean country. During the interview session, the setting and procedure is the same like occupational therapy interview. It is a 3-3 interview and you may go in with au...

UKM Occupational Therapy Interview

Hi guys, thanks for following my blog. After the USM speech science interview, I was glad that I get the chance to go to UKM KL campus for 2 interview session, Occupational Therapy and Speech science. What I am going to talk about today is what I had experienced during Occupational therapy programme interview. In the morning, I have started my nervous journey from crossroad hotel KL to UKM KL for the morning and afternoon interview session. Please be reminded that the interview session will be held in Kolej Tun Syed Nasir or you can set your GPS as “Klinik Audiologi and Sains Pertuturan”. It required some time to travel from fakulti Sains Kesihatan. Generally, it was a 3-3 interview session and it require us to speak in both English and malay. I think that the lecturer is very kind as they wont interrupt us until we finish our speech. However, I found that the interview session in UKM is somehow different from USM. These are the questions they asked during the session: 1. ...
